That’s an increase of 27 new packages in the last 8 days, or 3.38 new Haskell apps a day. Well done everyone!

Installing Packages from AUR

To install AUR packages, we recommend yaourt, as in:

yaourt --noconfirm  --lightbg --aur -S haskell-haha

You may want to alias that command line. Here’s an example from this week’s releases:

The reason to use yaourt over cabal-install is that AUR packages correctly resolve all versions and, more importantly, C library and other system dependencies. Packages will also be pulled from the binary releases in [extra] and [community] where available, saving you build times.

Haskell wiki stack in Arch

The unified Haskell network, web and wiki stack is now in AUR:

  • happs-server, the standalone web appliance kit
  • haskell-salvia, the other standalone web appliance kit for Haskell
  • filestore, the unified darcs/git file versioning API
  • orchid, the Haskell wiki library
  • gitit, the mediawiki-alike standalone wiki system using markdown

and related libs. So you should be able to run either wiki system (gitit or orchid) out of the box now. gitit makes a good case for an automatic dependency resolver, too…

The new unified filestore API project was announced earlier today.

gitit now supported in Arch Linux

gitit is a new kind of wiki, by John MacFarlane, based on git + pandoc + happs, and written in Haskell. The entire wiki may be edited either online, or offline via git.

The complete gitit system is now packaged for Arch, thanks to full HAppS support, and you can get it here. Hopefully we’ll see yet more HAppS-based web apps to follow, now they’re easy to distribute.

Arch Haskell News: Nov 02 2008
